This weekend kept us going and going and going.
I spent all day (LITERALLY) making up lesson plans for our Advanced ESL class on Saturday. Since we really don't have any materials yet, I had to search and search the net for ideas. I am picky, so it took me quite a while, and much longer than I expected.
The time spent was worthwhile. We left early Sat. morning headed to the other side of town, made copies (b. forced me to go in by myself and practice my espanol), and arrived early to get things set up (board, tables, etc.). Nearly 40 students came!! They each are eager to learn and are very appreciative for the lesson taught. With some who come to learn, but are on lower level than Advanced, we are able to practice our Spanish with, before and after class. I enjoyed teach IMMENSELY. After our English studies, we are studying the Bible, and students are learning to story specific chapters. In places where there are no books or people are oral learners (rather than literate learners), the Bible stories are shared by storying.
Sat. evening, we were treated by friends to pizza. :)
Sunday morning, we attended Sunday School for the first time, since we are finally beginning to attend one particular church. When we arrived, the pastor and his secretary were hanging a HUGE banner. All week, we had used Google translate to correspond about the new ESL class located at the Christian school/church. They ordered the banner for us, took care of picking it up, and were now hanging it. It was much larger than we were expecting. It announces the new class, times, date, our names, and our mission. What servants of God these men are!!
It is such an amazing feeling to worship our God, even in a different tongue that we do not completely understand or can speak fully, with peoples of a different nation. Finally, the words are beginning to kick in, and we are understanding little by little. The accent and speed of Spanish is much faster here than we were used to in C.R. As we all sang together, "How Great Thou Art," in a different language, with the music playing loudly (guitars, keyboard, drums, bongos, tambourine, etc, & some sort of chimes that somehow sound angelic) and the voices signing wholeheartedly above the music, it reminds me of how one day we will all be singing and worshiping God together, from nations all over the world. Voices and hands lifted, hearts focused on HOW GREAT OUR GOD IS.
After church, we ate lunch with friends from church at a local mall. Fun times!
Resting for a minute, we then headed to Larcomar, the mall sitting on the cliffs overlooking the ocean. We were treated dinner by several representatives from International World Changers, who will be bringing in close to 100 teenagers and college students on 3 different occasions. They discussed translator and transportation needs with us and other team members. I am looking forward to seeing what God plans to do during this trip to those who are participating and those who they'll be sharing with!!
